Presented by the Canadian Institute for Cybersecurity and the University of New Brunswick (UNB), Karl Holmqvist, CEO and Founder of Lastwall, emphasizes the necessity for organizations to proactively assess their vulnerability to quantum threats. He advocates for the adoption of hybrid quantum-safe encryption, with a focus on safeguarding high-value data and implementing it in new deployments. The imperative to take action is paramount to guaranteeing the security of our data as we approach the era of quantum computing.

Effective cybersecurity requires a delicate balance between convenience and strong security measures, resulting in various solutions like identity proofing and multi-factor authentication. Given that users are often the initial targets in cyberattacks, prioritizing seamless, advanced authentication methods is critical. Organizations should view cybersecurity akin to being pursued by a bear – they needn't be the fastest to escape threats, but they must not lag behind.

In January 2023, with backing from the Innovations Solutions Canada program and sponsorship through the Shared Services Canada agency, Canada's Centre for Excellence in Next Generation Networks was engaged to independently validate the capabilities of the Lastwall platform.

Lastwall officially moved into the Cyber Centre in May 2022 and intends to grow and expand its operations from this ideal location. With its home office firmly planted in New Brunswick and its workforce pounding pavement, Lastwall has set its sights on building the security solutions that underpin the core institutions of our emerging digitally empowered democracy.

As the experimental and innovation branch of the U.S. Department of Defense, the Defense Innovation Unit (DIU) is on the cutting edge of testing, evaluating, and deploying new technologies before a recommendation is made regarding use cases and broader adoption by government and defense agencies.
